Motorists are experiencing severe problems on the B6276 which runs from Mickleton (on the B6277) to Bowes. The actual problem is in Cumbria, not Durham and on investigation it would appear that Durham was not informed of the impact the roadworks would have on Durham in fact Cumbria appears to have abjured all responsibility for what is going on on their road:-

This is an extract  from an email sent to me by Cumbria County Council in response to my telephoned report and it makes dismal reading.

"Thank you for your report.

Here's a summary of what you've reported:
Enquiry reference: EI/11526
Date Submitted: 26-August-2021
Category: A problem with a road sign
Enquiry Description: Diversion signs in place for the Road Closure on the B6276 are confusing to drivers. Traffic is being not being diverted at the correct points and vehicles are having to turn around. The problem seems to be around the area of Mickleton where there are 2 diversions in place, an alternative one for HGVs. Can this be looked into urgently please.

Thank you,
Cumbria Highways"

Pilate himself could not have done better considering it's Cumbria's bl**dy road. (my words)

So if you try to get to Bowes from Mickleton the problem is that the B6276 has to have limited access to allow access to Laithkirk, farms and dwellings from Mickleton to the offending roadworks some 10-12 miles from Mickleton once you arrive at the roadworks YOU WILL BE TURNED BACK and you will then have to go to the A66 via the Sills or the A76 at Startforth, either way a significant extra distance to your journey.

These roadworks with their attendant problems are expected to run from 17 August until 24 September 2021 providing there is not problems or emergent work which coulld cause further delays. Have a look HERE for the Cumbria County Council Website and map

These photographs shewn below were taken28th August 2021 and indicate the signage at the Mickleton end of the problems.
